We design and manage evaluation and user testing as part of our web service design work. However, we can also proivde these services as standalone components of larger projects.
Evaluation
We’ve been looking at websites for over 10 years and we can qickly and accurately identify key issues with usefulness and usability. If you have a website or service that’s not performing, we can help you find out why using some or all of the following techniques:
- heuristic evaluation – applying the basic rules of usefulness and usability
- cognitive walkthrough – task-based evaluation
- comparative evaluation – what are your competitors doing? What does ‘the best’ look like?
- collaborative evaluation – based on multiple views, opinions and experiences of the same site or service
User testing
There is no subsitute for testing with real users. It can be expensive and it often hurts, but the outputs are crucial to developing web services that generate tangible benefits. There are several approaches to this type of testing and each needs:
- a focussed set of objectives
- a clear and well-defined testing brief
- detailed specifications for user recruitment
- realistic timescales for recruitment, execution and reporting
…and all of the above is only useful if you’re going to act on the results! We work with many organisations that believe user testing is a checkbox exercise to prove intial ideas right.
We work with some of the best user testing companies, managing their work to ensure that you get:
- meaningful, focussed and respresentative results
- the evidence to support development
- outstanding value for money – user testing isn’t cheap
